Confetti Shawl Free Pattern – with Chart
Good morning! Happy December!
Before we get to today’s free pattern, which kickstarts Creating Christmas (in which we encourage you to actually MAKE something & not just PIN something), I got a blog award!
I received this award for showcasing other crochet work around the ‘net, isn’t that cool? I’m doubly honored by this because Kathryn, who gave me this award, works really hard & spends an amazing amount of time trying to showcase other crochet work online, so the fact that she thinks little ole ME does a good job sharing crochet work is just amazing to me. I’m really honored Kathryn; thank you!
Good morning! Today is the first day of The Girl Creative‘s Creating Christmas event!
To kick start this event, let me show you a project I designed just for Christmas / charity / giftgiving, my confetti shawl design.

Confetti shawl

This little, easy top down shawl matches my Confetti hat pattern, & is designed for charity use. I freely offer this pattern to you in the hopes that you will make at least one for charity. Enjoy!

Materials: Sample was made using one skein of Red Heart Super Saver Multi yarn (6 ounces / 170 grams / 269 yards), a size H (5 mm) crochet hook, and a removable stitch marker. Any yarn may be used
Gauge: 3 sts = 1″. Gauge does not matter, crochet a fabric that makes you happy
Measurements: 20″ deep by 48″ wide, after light blocking
Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
sk: skip
sts: stitches
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
pattern: always work a dc in a sc & a sc in a dc
Pattern note: This is a simple textured shawl that can be made in any weight of yarn with any size crochet hook & in any gauge that makes you happy. Shawl is increased by 6 stitches in each row, & forms a curved top, so not a true triangle shape, more of a “batwing†shape that you can more easily wrap around your shoulders & the shawl will stay put.
Pattern (chart to follow after text):
Ch 4, join with a sl st to form a circle.
Row 1: Ch 1, (sc, dc) twice, sc once more, all in circle: 5 sts made.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc now & throughout), turn. (Sc, dc) in 1st sc, sc in next dc, (dc, sc, dc) all in next sc, sc in next dc, (dc, sc, dc) in last sc: 11 sts made.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. (Sc, dc, sc) in 1st dc, (dc in next sc, sc in next dc) twice, (dc, sc, dc) in next sc & mark sc just made. (Sc in next dc, dc in next sc) twice, (sc, dc, sc) in 3rd ch of beg ch 3: 17 sts made.
Row 4: Ch 3, turn. (Sc, dc) in 1st sc, work in pattern until marked sc, (dc, sc, dc) in marked sc & bring marker up to sc just made, work in pattern until last sc, (dc, sc, dc) in last sc: 23 sts made.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. (Sc, dc, sc) in 1st dc, work in pattern until marked sc, (dc, sc, dc) in marked sc & bring marker up to sc just made, work in pattern until beg ch 3, (sc, dc, sc) in 3rd ch of beg ch 3.
Rep rows 4 & 5 as many times as desired.
Ending: End off. Weave in ends, block, and wear with pride!

By Anastacia Knits Designs  / http://anastaciaknits.net

Materials: Sample above was made with leftover Opal sock yarn, approximately 40 grams, which made a small scarf preblocking that measured 4.75†wide by 42†long, size F (3.5 mm) crochet hook, following the smallest size directions. I crochet loosely; most crocheters will need to go up a hook size or two to get gauge
Â
Gauge:  1 shell = 1.66â€. Gauge does not matter; crochet a nice, open fabric that drapes well. Finished size will vary with gauge & number of pattern repeats
Measurements: small (4.75†wide), medium (6.65†wide), & large (10†wide) by desired length
Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
sp: space
sk: skip
rep: repeat
beg: beginning
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
shell: (dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc once more, all in same sc
Pattern:
Row 1: Ch 26 (34, 50). Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * sk 3 ch, shell in next ch, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch. Rep from * 2 (3, 5) times more, ending final sc in last ch: 3 (4, 6) shells made & 4 (5, 7) sc made.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in 1st dc, * shell in next sc, sc in next dc. Rep from * 2 (3, 5) times more, ending final sc in 3rd ch of beg ch 6.
Rep row 2 & 3 for pattern as many times as desired for length of scarf, then repeat row 2 once more.
Edging:

End off. Weave in ends, block scarf, & wear with pride!

new pattern U Scrap afghan

the U Scrap afghan is here! Print this page, or download now
Materials:
1-2 pounds of worsted weight yarn, scrap colors. I used mainly Red Heart Super Saver, Vanna’s Choice acrylic, Caron’s Simply Soft, & Caron One Pounder, approximately 900 yards for a “throw†& twice as much for a bigger afghan.
H crochet hook
Gauge: gauge doesn’t matter, crochet a fabric you like. I got 3 dc=1 inch.
Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
ea: each
sp: space
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
Pattern note: Afghan is made by working around 3 sides, forming a “U†shape. Afghan is turned after each row. Change colors as desired.
Pattern:
Ch 100.
Row 1: In 4th ch from hook, dc, & dc in ea ch sp across to end of row. Ch 2, dc in same ch sp. Ch 2, turn work & dc on other side of same ch loop. Working on other side of free loops from starting ch, continue dc in ea ch across.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Dc in ea dc across row until 1st ch 2 sp. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch 2 sp. Dc in dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch 2 sp. Continue dc in ea dc across.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn. Dc in ea dc across row until 1st ch 2 sp. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch 2 sp. Dc in next 5 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 2 sp. Continue dc in ea dc around.
Row 4: Ch 3, turn. Dc in ea dc across row until 1st ch 2 sp. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch 2 sp. Dc in following dc until corner ch 2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch 2 sp. Continue dc in ea dc around.
Repeat row 4 as necessary, until afghan is desired size.
Border:
Round 1: With desired border color, join yarn with a sl st in any corner sp. Ch 1, 3 sc in corner sp. Sc in ea dc around, at top of U afghan, work 2 sc around ea dc, working as needed to keep work flat, & work 3 sc in ea corner.
Round 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in ea sc around, 3 sc in ea corner.
End off. Weave in ends & enjoy.
Formula:
To change the size of the finished afghan, determine desired size of afghan, keeping mind for every 2 feet of width, you will be crochet one foot of length.
If you want an afghan 3 feet by 4 feet, you need to start with a one foot starting chain, and crochet 2 feet from starting chain: 2 feet either side of starting chain = 4 feet, 2 feet out from end of chain + 1 foot starting chart = 3 feet.
For an afghan 4 feet by 6 feet, start with a four foot starting chain, and crochet for 2 feet – 2 feet on either side of starting chain= 4 feet, two feet out from end of starting chain plus 4 feet starting chain=6 feet.
For an afghan 6 feet by 6 feet:
Start with a three foot starting chain, and crochet for 3 feet: 3 feet either side of starting chain = 6 feet, 3 foot starting chain plus 3 feet crocheted = 6 feet.
As long as you keep in mind the formula of every 2 feet across either side of chain (width) = one foot of added length, you can make many different sizes of afghans.
Optional: If desired, work one row of dc, and one row of sc, working 3 sc in ea corner, and alternating dc & sc rows.
Thanks to FrogSalad & sueburkitt for their test crocheting skills!

Feel free to make as many of these as you like for local craft fairs/auctions/raffles/bazaars, but please do not sell finished items online. The pattern itself is not for sale. If making for charity, please let me know the name of the charity & include my contact info with the item (http://anastaciaknits.net).
