Flowerpot Afghan Design

flowerpot afghan

Do you remember the white lace afghan I’ve blogged about a couple of times?

Well, not only is the afghan done, but the design is now published as well! I’ve been calling it the Nemo Afghan because I wrote up the pattern (and did all the math for the different sizes) during Nemo, but didn’t want to actually publish it with that name because I also wrote up a square that day & I publlished it as the Nemo March Square. Because the two designs are completely unrelated, I definitely didn’t want to use the same name for two separate designs, so after brainstorming, I finally came up with the Flowerpot Afghan.

Do you see little flowerpots?

Like I usually do for my afghan designs, the pattern is written for four sizes:

preemie 24” by 24”
small lapghan / toddler sized 32” by 32”
small afghan (twin sized bedspread) 49” by 72”
large afghan (full sized bedspread) 60” by 84”

Afghan requires Red Heart Super Saver yarn, 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn, 7 ounces (198 grams), 364 yards (334 meters), 2 (3,6,7) skeins needed.

If you prefer to use a “one pound” skein of yarn such as Caron’s One Pound, you need 1 (1, 3, 4) skeins to complete the afghan.

Afghan is now for sale on Ravelry, Craftsy, Shop Delighted, and Etsy, and soon to be listed on Patternfish. I’ve also listed the pattern on Crochetville, which now sells crochet patterns by independent designs! I’m slowly listing all of my designs.

New 12″ Squares

I recently blogged about Melinda’s Wrap Square, a free for the moment 12″ square design. Well, I’ve been a busy bee, and I’ve also published two other temporarily free 12″ square designs… Celebrate the End of Winter Blues

celebrate the end of winter blues (6)

Celebrate the End of Winter Blues was designed for my year long afghan square CAL on Ravelry.

and It’s a Cluster Square.
It's a cluster square (6) yellow

Purple Square made by one of my testers, pandastamper

It’s a Cluster Square was designed for the Afghans & Blankets ongoing square CAL. This is year two of the CAL. The first year we brought out a new square to crochet every week, and this year we’re working a little slower by crocheting a new square every two weeks. This is the second time one of my squares was chosen for the CAL but the first one I designed specifically for the group.

Both patterns are free through the end of May & then the price will be $2.25 each.

friday fo: wriggly way afghan

As always, I’m behind in blogging, what I’ve actually finished – especially this time of year, because I’m just not motivated to go outside, in the cold & the snow, & take a bunch of photos.

wiggly afghan

But I did manage to get some great shots of my finished Wriggly Way afghan

This is the second one I’ve made, my first one I finished last month.

I’m really pleased with how this one came out, aren’t you?

christmas yarn: charity acrylic yarn

Yes! I got yarn for Christmas! and patterns and other fibery craft related goodies!

Today I’ll share with you the acrylic for charity!

acrylic yarn

woolease

All the above came from hubby’s thrifting & yard saling. Perfect timing too, as I was down to practically no charity yarn – I am actually working on the last of my acrylic now before my Christmas haul. This looks like alot, but really is only enough for about a month of crocheting at the most – probably more like 2 weeks if I don’t get distracted by other projects.

My niece Alyssa, who you saw in photos a couple of days ago, picked out this yarn for her Auntie A (that’s me!)

Good job, Alyssa!

Valley Bridge Afghan

IMG_3981

Good morning, guys!

I’m so pleased & excited to announce a new design from me. It’s called the Valley Bridge Afghan, which was named by an online buddy of mine, QueenE79. I took my finished Valley Bridge afghan on vacation with us, & took lots of photos in York Harbor, Maine. The Valley Bridge throw is a great open, lacey design, that is easy enough for a beginner crocheter to make, but fun for a stitcher with more experience. It makes for great crocheting while watching TV or chatting with a friend.

The pattern is for sale on Ravelry, Etsy, Craftsy, & soon on patternfish.

4 sizes are available: 30” (crib), 36” (toddler / lapghan / throw), 48” (twin bed), 60” (double bed) for width, times how ever deep you’d like.

IMG_3973

Caron One Pound yarn was used, which comes in a 16 ounce (453.6 grams) skein & is a 100% acrylic. You will need approximately 1 (2, 3, 4) skeins. For the two larger sizes, you will only use about half of the last skein. Any worsted weight yarn can be used. You will also need an H (5.0 mm) crochet hook, or hook needed for gauge.

Pattern uses basic stitches such as single crochet, double crochet, & the V stitch.

Thank you to my tech editor, Kristin LeMoine (kri on Ravelry) & many thanks to my testers, honeyluv, dtf1983, purlingkitten, croknitmama, agd509, mamacitadedos, Nifertiti83, wildthing1058, debspugs, Leilacnm, blogstarr, MrsLindaK, & poodlemama9, & a very special thank you to QueenE79 for coming up with the great name for the afghan. Thanks for all of your hard work!

Pattern is only $5.

yelcho tunisian scarves: friday fo

I finally dragged this pile of Yelcho scarves outside to photograph. I have a few more finished, that I need to weave in the ends on, & then more photos to take! So, without further ado, the first tunisian project I’ve ever finished, other than small, freeform bits…

and the whole pile at once…

very easy, very fast, very fun little free pattern… I used an L tunisian hook & various acrylics, & I think I’ll save a couple for gifts but donate the rest of them to the charity I support.

friday fo

Good morning! I finished my granny square afghan that I started making grannies for in Nov or Dec (I still have a pile more to join).

I used various scraps in mainly bright colors & used red as my main joining color, & joined as I went.

This is an edging for a stitch dictionary but I didn’t think to write down where

I also finished a frilly little thing

jess’s baby blanket

IMG_0236
Now that my cousin has had her baby & has now received her baby blanket, I can share photos! I worked on this in Oct & Nov of last year (that still sounds funny, saying last year)
IMG_0235
I used basic granny squares & made them each either 2, 4, 6, or 8 rounds – I made 2 of the largest size, 3 of the 6 round size, & mainly 4 round squares, & the little 2 rounders filled in the gaps. I had no set plan, really; I made a bunch of squares with various bright colors (I really didn’t think she’d go for the traditional baby colors), & joined as I went, putting squares of various sizes wherever I thought they looked good, babette style.
IMG_0233
I did a basic shell border, I couldn’t think of any border patterns off hand & really didn’t want anything super fancy or complicated, I wanted something simple that wouldn’t overcrowd the already crazy color scheme.

And a sneak peak at something I’ve been working on…
frilly little thing

And for something totally different & wildly unexpected from me…

my first thread doily

it’s my first ever thread doily!! I have never been fond of thread, but love doilies & love doily patterns… so I finally made this as part of the doilie head cal on Ravelry. It wasn’t that hard once I learned how to crochet all over again! the thread is a bright orange thread, mystery brand, that I picked up at a yard sale ’cause hello… it’s orange… I love me my orange… it’s obviously not blocked yet (must reread how to block doilies) & I’ll show off a nicer photo then.

Friday FO: squares

Yup, still on a square kick & really enjoying how fast they are to work up. Still using scrap worsted weight acrylic in shades of blues, & an H (5 mm) crochet hook, we have the following 12″ squares (either as written, or I added extra rows to make them 12″):

for the baby bam cal
wooly's snowflake (2)
woolly’s snowflake square (the color is really off in this square; it’s actually a blue gray center & a light blue outside)

for the crochet bam cal
pretty petals (2)

next up we have the drop in the bucket square, also for the crochet bam group

for the afghans & blankets Ravelry group

week two
Star Overlay

why yes, I didn’t know how to follow directions.. and why yes, I did forget what I was doing halfway through the star overlay section, thanks for noticing :)

for my belated B project for the Stashdown A to Z group, I did the Bright & Cheery Square… twice…

green scrap lapghan – panels

024
I was playing around with a stitch dictionary, threw in a little freeform, and I have a new lapghan for the local nursing home.
026
It’s simple, it’s easy, it was fun & fast to make, what do you think? Ever just play with your yarn?
027
(and yes, in case you were wondering, I took these photos way back in September but I’m just getting to share the afghan now)

I finally finished weaving in the ends of the incredibly ugly freeform lagphan / blanket for the nursing home
IMG_6451
IMG_6449
I wish I could say it was prettier in person – it’s not.

IMG_6453
This one is different from most of my freeform, I used a ton of motifs, bits of gauge swatches, leftover motifs from other projects, leftover squares from other projects, all those bits & pieces as a knitter or crocheter you accumulate. I started off with a decent palette of colors, but I started getting a little crazy one night with a glass of wine… and … well…
IMG_6454
this is what happened

I finally finished & blocked my 198 yards of Heaven, that I was making for Nerd Wars but didn’t finish in time
198 yards of heaven shawl blue (2)

and finished up dad’s sport weight socks for Christmas
dad's toe up socks gray knit picks sport (2)
yes, these took forever! size 11.5 EEE, 68 stitches, toe up, sport weight yarn, size 2 needles
