NEW FREE shawl pattern

Good morning! I’d like to share with you my latest shawl design! And best of all, it’s free!

That being said, I am offering this shawl pattern free but I do ask, and strongly urge you to, make one shawl for charity, in exchange for this free pattern. I’d prefer if it went to a nursing home or cancer center, but any charity of your choice would make me very happy. Failing that, I’d love it if you made a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of America.

I also give any teachers out there permission to use this shawl pattern in any classroom setting, with the above provision: please ask your students to donate a finished shawl to charity. thank you!

 

Three Triangles Shawl

(16 ounces, scrap acrylic, no blocking)

Materials: about 12-16 ounces worsted weight yarn and a size J (5.0 mm) crochet hook OR yarn and crochet hook of choice

 

Gauge: 12 dc=4 inches. Gauge doesn’t matter

Measurements: customizable

Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):

ch: chain

ea: each

dc: double crochet

Pattern Note: Shawl is made with three triangles, for additional warmth and it is easier to “stay put” on your shoulders. It can be made any size using any yarn / hook / gauge, and is designed for stashbusting!

Pattern:

Ch 4, join with a sl st to form a circle.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc, now & throughout pattern), turn. (2 dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in circle: 7 dc made.

Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Dc in 1st dc, dc in next 2 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp, dc in next dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) next ch 2 sp, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in last dc: 13 dc made.

Row 3: Ch 3, turn. Dc in 1st dc, dc in ea dc across until first ch 2 sp, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp, dc in ea dc across until next ch 2 sp, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch 2 sp, dc in ea dc across until final dc, 2 dc in last dc: 19 dc made at end of row 3, 6 dc increased each additional row.

Rep row 3 as many times as desired.

End off. Weave in ends, block, and wear with pride!

Options: This shawl is easy to change up, customize, and make your own! If you want more of a curved shape, add an extra double crochet at the beginning & end of every other row. Or substitute the double crochet for all single crochet, half double crochet, or treble crochet! The possibilities are endless!

I have a new fo! This one snuck up on me, I never even took a wip photo let alone shared one with you!

I had forgotten just how fast my Coins Quilt pattern is to make.

Have you made one of these? This is one of my older designs, made specifically for using up small amounts of yarn in a pleasing way. Being quite a yard saler, I’d always end up with small amounts of yarn & I was always quite frustrated with the current scrap patterns on the market: often, they’d call for large amounts of “scrap” yarns, like a full size skein, or the main color would also be a large amount – like 2 pounds or so. I didn’t consider those true scrap projects. Depending on the size of your finished coins quilt, you might only need a skein of Red Heart Super Saver as your main color. So even if you don’t have a full skein laying about, you can easily make of one blankets & only need to buy one skein of yarn that’s often on sale for $2. And, the best part is, even if you don’t have a skein on hand now, you can still start your blanket today with the scraps you have on hand! And, it’s free!

I know I’ve been busy & lost with my own thoughts lately, but I didn’t realize it had been TWO weeks since I had posted! Yikes! Well, at least it was two weeks & two months LOL

Work has been busy, I’ve been doing crochet & warm up america demos often at my local Michael’s in Dayville, CT, but no one has been taking classes. But, I’ve been doing some designing for my warm up america demos & have passed out many, many copies of square patterns for others to make – some available online (and passed out with permission) & a few that I’ve been designing myself. free pattern: Ogunquit Granny

Materials:
o Approximately 1-2 pounds of worsted weight yarn scraps, or any desired yarn. Keep all the yarn the same weight for best results
o Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook

Gauge: doesn’t matter

Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
sp: space
rep: repeat
ea: each
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet

Pattern Note: This is a three quarter granny square, & will be worked flat for the majority of the pattern. Because of its construction, the afghan will always be twice as wide as it is high. It is designed for charity & stash-busting. There are two options for borders: if you do not like the proportions of the afghan as written, use the second “granny square” border.

Pattern:
This section is worked flat, turning after each row.
Row 1: Ch 4, (dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in 4th ch from hook: 7 dc made.
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1 sp, now & throughout), turn, * (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc-corner made) in ch 2 sp, ch 1, rep from * once more, dc in 4th ch of beg ch 4: 14 dc made.
Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc, now & throughout), turn, dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 2 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp (this forms the beginning of the bottom of the afghan), ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 2 sp, ch 1, dc in next ch 1 sp, dc in 3rd ch of beg ch 4: 19 dc made.

Rep rows 5 & 6 as many times as desired, changing colors at will. When afghan is desired size, do not end off, but change to desired border color in last stitch of row 6.

Plain Border:
Use this border if you want to keep the proportions the same as already established.
You will now be working in rounds.
Round 1: Ch 1, do not turn. Working across top edge of afghan, 2 sc in ea dc across top. * 3 sc in corner, 2 sc in ea dc across & ch 1 sp across until next corner. Rep from * twice more, join with a sl st to 1st sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, work a round of reverse sc all the way around afghan.

Granny Border:
ogunquit granny - green (6)
Use this border if you want to add some “height” to your finished afghan – see photo above.
Round 1: Ch 5 (forms the beginning of the first corner), do not turn. Working into the top of the last dc made from the body of the afghan, 3 dc, ch 1. (3 dc, ch 1) into the base of every other dc across top of afghan until next corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into 3rd ch of beg ch 3. Sk ch 1 sp made from beg ch 4 from body of afghan, ch 1, * (3 dc, ch 1) in ea ch 1 sp across until next corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next corner, rep from * once more, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1) across last side of afghan until beg of round 1, 2 dc in last dc, join with a sl st to ch 3rd ch of beg ch 5.
Round 2: Sl st into first corner, ch 5, 3 dc in same corner sp. * Ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1) in ea ch 1 sp across until next corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch 2 sp. Rep from * twice more, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1) in ea ch 1 sp across until last corner, 2 dc in corner sp, join with a sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 5.

Repeat round 2 as many times as desired for border.

End off. Weave in ends. Show off!

Good morning guys! I have another free pattern for you to enjoy today, the promised sponge to match my treble dishcloth. This pattern uses up the rest of the skein from the dishcloth! Stashbusting is always a good thing, right?

Materials: Lily’s Sugar ‘n Cream Twists yarn, 100% cotton, 56.7 grams / 2 ounces / 95 yards per skein, color Summer Twists, 1 skein. One skein will make 4-5 sponges, & a size G (4.5 mm) crochet hook

Gauge: doesn’t matter, it’s a sponge!

Measurements: roughly 3” by 4”

Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
ea: each
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
tr: treble crochet

Materials: scrap worsted weight yarn & a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook. Sample was made using Red Heart Super Saver.

Gauge: 1st 5 rounds = 3”

Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
blo: back loops only
sl st: slip stitch

Pattern note: I used a Kraft parmesan cheese container, with the top carefully cut off. You can easily adapt this pattern for other size containers, by increasing more or less times. Join with a slip stitch at the end of each round.
Pattern:
Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with a sl st to 1st sc: 6 sc made.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join with a sl st to 1st sc: 12 sc made.
Round 3: Ch 1, * 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, join with a sl st to 1st sc: 18 sc made.

Hello, guys! I have another quick little freebie for you all to enjoy today. It’s called the Treble Dishcloth, because it uses treble crochets for great texture & scrubbing power :) . I originally wrote this up almost a year ago, & I finally finalized the pattern & got it tested this past week. free crochet pattern BLO: 6 inch square

I have a little free pattern for everyone to enjoy. It’s called BLO: 6 inch square (you know: blo – back loops only). It is a simple little square, with a twist: the whole thing is worked in the back loops only, creating a little bit of texture & interest to an otherwise plain square: making this great for charity or someone who wants a solid, not a lacey, blanket. If you make this, I’d really love to see some photos!
