Materials: approximately 75 grams (145 yards) for small cowl OR 110 grams (205 yards) for size large worsted weight yarn, size H crochet hook
 Gauge:  1 shell = 2â€
Measurements: 8.5†wide (10.5†wide) by desired circumference
 Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
shell: (dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc once more, all in same sc
Pattern note: Cowl is crocheted sideways & then seamed, & then the border is added, working seamlessly in the round. There are directions for two heights, & finished width is easily adjusted by working more or less rows.

Edging (you will now be working in the round):
Round 1: Pick up cowl with right side facing up, & join yarn with a sl st. Sc evenly around cowl, making sure you end up with a multiple of 8. Sl st to 1st sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same sc (do not turn). * Sk 3 sc, shell in next sc. Sk 3 sc, sc in next sc. Rep from * around cowl. End off.
