Just a quick & simple kerchief to use up a small ball of yarn (ideal for handspun, too) leftover from another project.

Materials: 1 skein of DK weight yarn (50 gram ball) & size H (5 mm) crochet hook. I used recycled sweater yarn dyed to create stripes using Kool Aid & food coloring.
Gauge: 11 dc = 4” in dc. Gauge doesn’t matter.

Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
dc: double crochet
sp: space
beg V st: Ch 4 (counts as dc & ch), dc in ch sp
V st: (dc, ch 1, dc) all in indicated st
ea: each
rep: repeat
Ch 5, join with a sl st to form a circle.
Row 1: Ch 4 (counts as dc & ch now & throughout), turn. 6 dc into circle, ch 1, dc into circle.
Row 2: Ch 4, turn. Dc into ch 1 sp (beg V st made). Ch 1, dc in next 2 dc, 1 V st in next 2 dc. Dc into next 2 dc, ch 1, V st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4.
Row 3: Beg V st into 1st ch sp, ch 1. Dc in next dc, dc in ch 1 sp. Dc in next 3 dc, dc in next ch 1 sp. V st in next 2 dc. Dc in ch sp. Dc in next 3 dc. Dc in ch sp, dc in next dc. Ch 1, V st in last ch sp (3rd ch of beg ch 3).
Row 4: Beg V st into 1st ch sp. 2 dc in ch 1 sp. Dc in ea dc across to next ch sp, dc in ch sp. V st in next 2 dc. Dc in ch sp, dc across to ch sp, 2 dc in ch sp. V st in last ch sp (3rd ch of beg ch 3).
Row 5: Beg V st into 1st ch sp. Ch 1, dc in ea dc across to next ch sp, dc in ch sp. V st in next 2 dc. Dc in ch sp, dc in ea dc across to V st. Ch 1, V st in last V st (3rd ch of beg ch 3): 6 ch 1 sp made.
Row 6-9: Rep row 4-5 twice.
Row 10: Beg V st into 1st ch sp. V st into next ch 1 sp. Sk 1 dc, dc in ea dc across until ch 1 sp. V st in ch 1 sp, V st in next 2 dc, V st in ch 1 sp. Dc in ea dc across until last 3 dc, sk dc, V st in ch 1 sp, V st in last ch 1 sp (3rd ch of beg ch 3).
Row 11: Beg V st in 1st ch sp, V st in next V st, V st in next dc. Sk 1 dc, dc in ea dc across until next V st, V st in next 2 V st, 1 V st in between V st, & 1 V in next 2 V st. Dc in ea dc across until last 6 dc, sk dc, V st in next dc, V st in next 2 V st (last V st is worked in 3rd ch of beg ch 3).

Row 13: Beg V st in 1st ch sp, V st in same ch sp. V st in next 2 V st, V st in next dc, sk 1 dc, dc in ea dc across until next V st. 1 V st in next 2 V st, 2 V st in next 2 V st, and 1 V st in next 2 v st. Dc in ea dc across until last 8 dc, sk 1 dc, V st in next dc, 1 V st in next 2 V st, 2 V st in last V st (last V st is worked in 3rd ch of beg ch 3).

Row 15: Beg V st in 1st ch sp, V st in ch 1 sp, V st in ea V st. Dc across until next V st. V st in next 4 V st, 2 V st in next 2 V st, V st in next 4 V st. Dc in ea dc across, V st in ea V st until ch 1 sp, V st in ch 1 sp, V st in last V st (3rd ch of beg ch 3).
Row 16: Beg V st in 1st ch sp, ch 1, V st in ea V st. Dc across until next V st. V st in next 5 V st, 2 V st in next 2 V st, V st in next 5 V st. Dc in ea dc across, V st in ea V st until last 2 V st, crochet V st, ch 1, V st in last V st (3rd ch of beg ch 3).
End off, block, and wear with pride!
