confetti shawl free pattern – with chart

Good morning! Happy December!

Before we get to today’s free pattern, which kickstarts Creating Christmas (in which we encourage you to actually MAKE something & not just PIN something), I got a blog award!

I received this award for showcasing other crochet work around the ‘net, isn’t that cool? I’m doubly honored by this because Kathryn, who gave me this award, works really hard & spends an amazing amount of time trying to showcase other crochet work online, so the fact that she thinks little ole ME does a good job sharing crochet work is just amazing to me. I’m really honored Kathryn; thank you!

Creating Christmas at The Girl Creative

This little, easy top down shawl matches my Confetti hat pattern, & is designed for charity use. I freely offer this pattern to you in the hopes that you will make at least one for charity. Enjoy!

Materials: Sample was made using one skein of Red Heart Super Saver Multi yarn (6 ounces / 170 grams / 269 yards), a size H (5 mm) crochet hook, and a removable stitch marker. Any yarn may be used

Gauge: 3 sts = 1″. Gauge does not matter, crochet a fabric that makes you happy

Measurements: 20″ deep by 48″ wide, after light blocking

Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):
ch: chain
sk: skip
sts: stitches
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
pattern: always work a dc in a sc & a sc in a dc

Pattern note: This is a simple textured shawl that can be made in any weight of yarn with any size crochet hook & in any gauge that makes you happy. Shawl is increased by 6 stitches in each row, & forms a curved top, so not a true triangle shape, more of a “batwing” shape that you can more easily wrap around your shoulders & the shawl will stay put.

Pattern (chart to follow after text):
Ch 4, join with a sl st to form a circle.
Row 1: Ch 1, (sc, dc) twice, sc once more, all in circle: 5 sts made.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc now & throughout), turn. (Sc, dc) in 1st sc, sc in next dc, (dc, sc, dc) all in next sc, sc in next dc, (dc, sc, dc) in last sc: 11 sts made.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. (Sc, dc, sc) in 1st dc, (dc in next sc, sc in next dc) twice, (dc, sc, dc) in next sc & mark sc just made. (Sc in next dc, dc in next sc) twice, (sc, dc, sc) in 3rd ch of beg ch 3: 17 sts made.
Row 4: Ch 3, turn. (Sc, dc) in 1st sc, work in pattern until marked sc, (dc, sc, dc) in marked sc & bring marker up to sc just made, work in pattern until last sc, (dc, sc, dc) in last sc: 23 sts made.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn. (Sc, dc, sc) in 1st dc, work in pattern until marked sc, (dc, sc, dc) in marked sc & bring marker up to sc just made, work in pattern until beg ch 3, (sc, dc, sc) in 3rd ch of beg ch 3.

Rep rows 4 & 5 as many times as desired.

Ending: End off. Weave in ends, block, and wear with pride!
