Materials: Sample above was made with leftover Opal sock yarn, approximately 40 grams, which made a small scarf preblocking that measured 4.75” wide by 42” long, size F (3.5 mm) crochet hook, following the smallest size directions. I crochet loosely; most crocheters will need to go up a hook size or two to get gauge

Gauge:  1 shell = 1.66”. Gauge does not matter; crochet a nice, open fabric that drapes well. Finished size will vary with gauge & number of pattern repeats

Measurements: small (4.75” wide), medium (6.65” wide), & large (10” wide) by desired length

Abbreviations (pattern uses US terms):

ch: chain

sp: space

sk: skip

rep: repeat

beg: beginning

sc: single crochet

dc: double crochet

shell: (dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc once more, all in same sc

Pattern:

Row 1: Ch 26 (34, 50). Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * sk 3 ch, shell in next ch, sk 3 ch, sc in next ch.  Rep from * 2 (3, 5) times more, ending final sc in last ch: 3 (4, 6) shells made & 4 (5, 7) sc made.

Row 2: Ch 6 (counts as dc & ch 3 space, now & throughout pattern), turn. Sk 2 dc & sc in next dc, ch 3, dc in next sc. * Ch 3, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, sk 2 dc, dc in next sc. Rep from * 1 (2, 4) times more, ending final dc in last sc of row: 6 (8, 12) ch 3 sp made.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in 1st dc, * shell in next sc, sc in next dc. Rep from * 2 (3, 5) times more, ending final sc in 3rd ch of beg ch 6.

Rep row 2 & 3 for pattern as many times as desired for length of scarf, then repeat row 2 once more.

Edging:

Sc around entire scarf, working 3 sc in each corner.

End off. Weave in ends, block scarf, & wear with pride!
