Hit List by Laurell Hamilton book review 3 stars

small spoiler alert…

Hit List (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #20)Hit List by Laurell K. Hamilton

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

*note* I mention adult topics in this review.

Every time I read a new Hamilton book, I say I’m not going to read another one. Well, she published Hit List, and I requested it from the library, read it in a couple of days – and I’m actually glad I did. This one is much better then the last few. It is a little light on plot, as all the more recent ones by her are, but it’s also much less sex as well (though, admitedly, Anita still talks about sex on just about every page, at least she’s not actually having sex on every page). All of the main characters other then Anita are basically missing from this one, though you do at least see Edward & I am a big Edward fan.

The ending is wrapped up a little too quickly/neatly/perfectly for me: the bad guys are supposed to be so, so, bad, but without much effort or thought, the good guys are magically saved & live on to fight the good fight another day,& the bad guys are simply gone without much effort. That part did bother me, but all in all, I did enjoy the book, it was a light, fun, fast read. I give the book 3 stars because the book of course did have some problems/issues, but it was still worth reading, especially if you are smart like I did & borrow the book instead of buy it.

As long as you don't MIND the sex scenes, the books are good. (and as one who liked Anne Rice's "Beauty" series... I think the LKH stuff is tame, there may be LOTS of it at times, but it is tame in language.)
I have gotten my husband into the books too, just by reading him a few lines from Skin Trade. He likes her wit & style. He is on 6 I think. As a guy who used to NOT read at all, it is GREAT to see him finish a book an a week or two. It is also fun to hear him laugh at parts & then tell me what happened that made him laugh. (I re-read all of them in anticipation for Hit List, then bought it from Hastings for 1/2 off, as an unexpected sale price.)

Argh spoilers!

Oh wells. I have only read the first 2 Anita books, and enjoyed them in all their smutty glory. Might have to get back on the wagon!

Sorry! I didn't think I did include any - oh, wait, I guess I did. Oops. I'll go edit & add the spoiler alert. At least I wasn't too detailed.

And as far as the smuttiest - trust me, the 1st two don't have any compared to the later books!!
