Soul of the Fire by Terry Goodkind

Soul of the Fire (Sword of Truth, #5)Soul of the Fire by Terry Goodkind

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I actually have read this book a couple of times, and most recently last year. I’m trying to post reviews for books I’ve read & enjoyed in the past.

Because of the tv shows, I decided I wanted to reread the series & catch up on the books I hadn’t read yet. The first book in this series is still one of my all-time favorite books, ever. Fantasy & a big, fat, long book starting a series? This makes my heart beat a little faster :) .

Anyways, this is one of those books that start slow. There’s a lot of character development in the first half. I enjoy the whole history aspect of the book & how it ties together at the end. I love the Sisters. I’m sick of Kahlan whining uncharacteristically, and after rereading this book, I remembered that that was why I gave up on the series the first time.

Star Trek

Star Trek Star Trek by Alan Dean Foster

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I’m a trekkie through and through. I loved the movie & have watched it at least 20 times, probably more like 35 or 40 times. I enjoy reading Star Trek books, too. But, I was disappointed in this book – it read more like a movie script, then an actual book. The author added absolutely nothing to the book, and almost every line the character speaks in the book, is word for word the line in the movie. I would have liked to have seen a more in-depth look at the characters – more “why” and less action.

recent revisions of old patterns

So, since I’ve been back on a designing kick, I am working on revamping/rewriting/reediting some of my older patterns, including my contact info on them, getting them test and/or tech edited, etc. I’m also trying to actually make a new version of said pattern as well, and take better photos, and add the photos to both the pattern page & my ravelry project page. It’s a lot of work, but I think the end result is worth it.

For example, I went from this:

to this:

the Queen’s Governess by Karen Harper

The Queen's GovernessThe Queen’s Governess by Karen Harper

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book. I’m an avid Tudor history geek, but I admit I don’t know a lot about Kat, and I was absolutely thrilled to get to know her better. The book is wonderfully well written, very well paced, shares details without being overwhelming, and does a wonderful job melding historical fact with a fictional story.

Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young GirlAnne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

How can anyone not be touched by this classic? This is one of these books that you just have to read again & again, and every time you do, you find something new that gripes you. When I was younger & read it for the first time (and saw the movie), I didn’t “get” the full picture/horror of the Holocaust, but as an adult I’m haunted by the ending – that her father is the only one that survives the death camps, and this is typical for families you lived during the Holocaust.

Undead & Unfinished by Mary Janice Davidson

Undead and Unfinished (Undead, #9)Undead and Unfinished by MaryJanice Davidson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved this book, like I love all of the other books in the Undead series. This one was absolutely my favorite of all of them, however. I like this series because it’s so light, breezy, and fun – not to mention a little romance, a little vampires, and the devil’s daughter to boot. This book, however, had a lot more – much more of a storyline, much more plot, and there’s an absolute twist at the end of the book that makes you screaming for Davidson’s blood that she left it like that!
